At Trade School Industries we believe that everyone has a contribution to make no matter a person’s history or current challenges. Trade School Industries works to provide training, employment and community for people who face barriers to finding good stable work and living lives of connection.

We recognise that some people face more barriers than others and there are complex reasons for this. At Trade School Industries, we journey alongside people. We work to break down barriers and offer opportunities, making way for new possibilities in people’s lives.

Barista training and work placement support

Barista Training and employment support

Trade School Industries works with partners to provide barista training and support for people who need a hand getting into the workforce. The training we provide flexes to meet the needs of different people groups and covers essential skills needed for joining the hospitality industry.

We recognise that skills on their own are often not enough. We work hard to make sure that all people who participate in our programmes experience support, encouragement and the space to imagine new possibilities for life.

We have particular focus on supporting people who face the most significant barriers to employment. We have worked closely with Ara Poutama The Department of Corrections to provide barista training behind the prison wire and in the community. We also offer trainees through Corrections the opportunity to continue journeying with us upon release from prison. For some, this may mean continuing to develop their skills through work experience at the Trade School Kitchen. For others, it will mean brokering employment opportunities with other cafes, and continuing to support them as they settle into the workforce.

Partnership with Youth Inspire Trust

Trade school industries, in partnership with Youth Inspire Trust, also works to support young people (aged 18 to 24) into the world of work. We do this through our locally run barista training course for participants in Youth Inspire’s ‘Licence to Work’ programme. We also provide work experience and on-the-job training for young people in the cafe.
